Sitting in the public gallery
In most courts any adult member of the public may watch hearings in open court. This is a core part of open justice.
Before you go
Use the court pages to find your nearest court and the link to the official hearing list. Look at the list to choose a case that interests you.
Rules and etiquette
- Expect security screening on entry.
- Switch phones off or to silent and do not record or take photographs.
- Do not talk during the hearing and do not eat or drink in court.
- You may be asked to leave if you disturb proceedings.
- Some hearings are held in private, so you may not be admitted.
Dress and conduct
There is no strict dress code for the public, but dress respectfully.
Accessibility
Courts have a duty to make adjustments for disabled visitors. Contact the court beforehand if you need step-free access or other assistance.
