How to find your courtroom on the day
Courts have many courtrooms, and cases can move between them on the day. Here is how to find yours.
Before you travel
Check the court named on your paperwork. If a court has more than one building in the same town, make sure you have the right one: each court page shows nearby courts and their addresses.
You can also look at the day’s list. Search by case reference on our search page or open the court’s page. Always confirm on the official service, which is the authority.
On the day
- Go through security.
- Look for the notice boards or screens showing the day’s lists, or ask at the information desk.
- Find your case by its reference number (also called URN) rather than by name. Names are not always displayed.
- Go to the courtroom shown and tell the usher you have arrived, if asked.
Reading a list
Lists are usually grouped by courtroom, with a listed time and a hearing type. A listed time is when the court expects to sit; your case may be called later. Our list explainers describe each column.
If you cannot find your case
Ask court staff. Cases are sometimes added, moved or withdrawn at short notice. See why isn’t my case listed?.
